Total Young Eagles Flown: 2,002,705! As of September 19, 2016
September 2016
Greetings
Congratulations to all of you who contributed to reaching the 2 millionth Young Eagles milestone! What an awesome accomplishment to have touched so many lives with a positive message for aviation. The continued success of the Young Eagles program is unprecedented in the world of aviation. Please take pride in this with our sincere appreciation for your efforts.
Fall is a great time of year to fly Young Eagles. The kids are back in school and the temperatures are cooler for most of us. Local clubs and youth groups are looking for activities so take the time to reach out and build a rapport. One idea you may suggest to your volunteers is to hand out Young Eagles brochures at Halloween with their contact info on the back.

Young Eagles Credits
The Young Eagles credit program is a great way to continue to support a young person's interest in aviation. However, each year many credits go unused. Although EAA's Air Academy camps are over for the year, remaining credits may be used as a deposit to reserve a spot for a camper in 2017. For more information about the camps, visit EAA.org/AirAcademy <http://go.eaa.org/uGK000lE0B0O0g03FfySUb0>. Keep in mind the Young Eagles credits expire on December 31, 2016.
Now is the time of year to help your pilots achieve the 10 for 2016 goal to earn credits for 2017. You may check the Logbook online using the Search Pilot by Chapter feature <http://go.eaa.org/P000K0OSBE0fH00F0lhUby3>. Look at Flights in Current Year to see how many Young Eagles each pilot has flown. For more information on Young Eagles Credits, click here <http://go.eaa.org/I0b0ISl0B0fiKO3y0F0EU00> .

Ground Volunteer Recognition
All volunteers should be recognized, especially those EAA headquarters may not know about. You know who they are – those all-important ground volunteers. From running the registration table to escorting the kids, they are all valuable and important to the success of your Young Eagles rally. Please take time to let them know how much they are appreciated. Email their names and we will send a certificate and an annual pin from EAA as our way of showing our appreciation for their time and efforts. Michelle's Thoughts
As many of you know my husband has been battling a
cancer diagnosis this past year. My son just completed an IronMan Triathlon this past weekend. Both are great challenges in life, one is beyond his control and the other one was a choice. Both of these men shared their struggles with me and as I have watched them face these challenges in the past year, they had one message in common. Their success is 85 percent believing in themselves. My husband hears this from his doctors, and my son told me he wanted to quit so many times but he kept telling himself he could do it. I realize that fighting for your life and choosing a race are totally different, but what intrigued me was how positive thinking can affect so much in our lives.
So here's the reason for that story – general aviation continually faces many obstacles to keep our freedom to fly strong. Some of it is government controlled, but some of it is our own attitudes. Do we really believe what we are doing here for young people is worth fighting for and keeping alive? We must continue to reach out to the next generation of aviators. Are we sharing positive energy, or negative? I have spent most of my working life here at EAA supporting the Young Eagles program. I believe in this program and I believe in you, the ones who support it. If you are ever looking for some inspiration, give us a call, that's what we are here for! Your time and your efforts are a debt of gratitude we can never repay – thank you! Please keep in touch, and feel free to contact me at mkunes at eaa.org <http://go.eaa.org/o03NK00nF00bfS00lUEOyB0> or call 920-426-6114.
